Little Update

Sorry there wasn't a new podcast yesterday. My life has been very busy with the wedding happening so soon. That said, there will be a new one Tuesday, with another one to follow not long after. I also did that interview with that producer and remixer whose name I'll reveal when it comes time to share more about that episode. We're probably going to talk once more for the podcast before it's totally in the bag, but he's very cool and it will be a great show.

Thanks everyone and see you all Tuesday!

DJ Brokenwindow

On the old site I'd posted the first volume of DJ Brokenwindow's Parallel Universe releases, but I don't think I got around to the second. Since neither volume is readily available anywhere, I decided to share some fresh rips from original CDs of both volumes for your listening enjoyment.

In case you have no idea what these releases are or what they're about, Brokenwindow was an associate of Illegal Art and kid606's short-lived but excellent bootleg label, Violent Turd. He created mash-ups in an almost entirely manual sense, using two turntables and records but no computers unless absolutely necessary. His goal was finding a vocal and and instrumental that could be combined live. This didn't always lead to tracks that overcame the novelty factor, a fact that a lot of reviewers seemed to miss, but even the goofiest, silliest moments hold a lot of memorable charm. For example, Eminem and D12 laid perfectly overtop the Thompson Twins, Yes atop Boards of Canada (one of the rare digitally assisted moments!), Vanilla Ice meets Trans-X, and the amazingly funny mix of a Tahitian party record over a locked groove from a Ritchie Hawtin compilation.

The second volume isn't as amazing as the first, but both are great fun that will leave you entertained for a few hours.

Paul's Boutique Companion Update

In all the years I ran the Unheard Music, I never asked for donations or gifts. I hate changing that now, but I'm unemployed and I'm running out of options to finish this project. That project, of course, is the final revision of the Paul's Boutique Companion, Build Your Own Boutique. What I need to finish it is an external hard drive of at least one terabyte in size. I can get one for around $120, but like I said, I'm broke and my search for work has been ongoing for months. So, while I hate to ask, would anyone consider contributing to such a project? I don't know what I'd have to offer, especially since I'm giving this release away to begin with (it's not like I've ever charged for anything I had on the site), but I'm sure I could make it interesting. So, if anyone would like to discuss this, leave me a comment, send me an e-mail, hit me on Twitter (I'm @unheard78), or whatever. Thank you.

PS - Sorry for having to beg. I'm not a beggar, but my resources are slim.
